Pitts Poised for Breakout in 2025
After a promising start to his NFL career, Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts has faced challenges over the past three seasons, struggling to consistently make an impact in the offense.
However, Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson remains optimistic. Speaking this week on the Waterboyz Show podcast, Robinson expressed strong confidence in Pitts’ potential heading into the 2025 season.
“I’m expecting Kyle to take a big jump,” Robinson said. “You know, Year 2 of the system. Year 2 of understanding what we’re trying to do offensively. All those things that come with it, so expecting a lot of good things from Kyle.”
“He knows what he needs to work on with the details, some of the fundamentals and techniques. The consistency down in and down out, those are things we talk about with him. Koger talks about with him all the time is those finer details and that next level that he can take as a player.”
“So I’m pumped for Kyle, can’t wait to get on the field with him and that’s going to be a lot of fun to see his growth.”
A Historic Start Followed by Setbacks
Selected fourth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, the highest a tight end has ever been taken, Pitts was under pressure to perform from the outset. He quickly delivered with a record-setting rookie campaign: 68 receptions, 1,026 yards and a Pro Bowl nod. Averaging 15.1 yards per catch.
He became just the second rookie tight end in NFL history to record a 1,000-yard season, joining Hall of Famer Mike Ditka.
But since that standout debut, Pitts has struggled to match his early success. Over the past three seasons, he has tallied only 1,625 yards in total and has not surpassed 667 yards in any individual season.
His 2022 campaign was particularly difficult, ending early due to a torn MCL. Atlanta’s frequent changes at quarterback and offensive coordinator have further hindered his consistency.
Confidence and Continuity in 2025
Despite recent struggles, the Falcons picked up Pitts’ fifth-year option last offseason. Showing continued belief in his potential. With more continuity entering Year 2 under Robinson’s offensive scheme and improved clarity at quarterback, thanks in part to Michael Penix Jr.’s late-season rise, the coaching staff sees a path for Pitts to rebound.
Adding further motivation is the fact that Pitts is entering a contract year, making 2025 a pivotal season for his future. Head coach Raheem Morris has already stated he wants to see the “best version” of Pitts this year and emphasized that the team is working to determine how to bring that out of him.
A Key Piece in Falcons’ Offensive Puzzle
With young stars Bijan Robinson and Drake London coming off career-best seasons in 2024, a rejuvenated Kyle Pitts could provide the final piece to an explosive offensive unit. His resurgence might be just what the Falcons need to make a strong push in the NFC South once again.
