After a decade with the Seattle Seahawks, Tyler Lockett is stepping into new territory. Literally and figuratively, as he begins the next chapter of his career with the Tennessee Titans.
“I’m excited about it,” Lockett said Tuesday via the Titans’ official site. “I’ve been in the same place for 10 years. Now it’s a new atmosphere, a new building and you’re learning everyone’s names and figuring out where you fit in. But it’s exciting, being a Titan now.”
The 32-year-old wide receiver signed a one-year, $4 million deal with Tennessee, bringing veteran leadership to a team resetting around No. 1 overall draft pick Cam Ward. For Lockett, the move isn’t about chasing stats. It’s about being part of something meaningful.
Last season, Lockett’s numbers dipped to just 600 yards and two touchdowns on 49 receptions. His lowest production since 2017. But he insists it wasn’t due to aging or declining skill.
“I sacrificed a lot of stuff last year for the betterment of the team,” he explained. “Sometimes it’s not about stats, it’s about leadership, character and helping others grow. That’s what teams needed and that’s what I tried to provide.”
With Seattle investing in younger talent like Jaxon Smith-Njigba and keeping DK Metcalf as a focal point, Lockett embraced a more selfless role. But in Tennessee, he’s not aiming to recapture past glory or prove doubters wrong.
“I know I can still play. I don’t feel like I have to prove that to anyone,” he said. “I just want to grow in a healthy way, not stress over trying to prove people wrong. Sometimes that mindset helps, but other times it just weighs you down.”
Now with the Titans, Lockett is focused on supporting a rookie quarterback and contributing to a culture change. A fitting mission for a player who’s always prioritized the team over individual accolades.
