Jacksonville Secures No. 2 Overall Pick
The NFL’s newest dual-threat athlete has officially signed his rookie contract. The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Sunday that they have signed Travis Hunter, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the deal is worth $46,649,114 over four years and includes a $30,566,628 signing bonus. As with all first-round picks, the contract also includes a standard fifth-year option.
A Bold Move by the Jaguars
Jacksonville traded up to secure Hunter with the second overall selection, sending a substantial package of picks to the Cleveland Browns to ensure they landed the dynamic wide receiver/cornerback hybrid.
It marked a significant move for the franchise under first-year general manager James Gladstone. Gladstone summed up the bold pick on draft night by saying Hunter has: “the capacity to alter the trajectory of the sport itself.”
With his contract finalized, Hunter becomes the 30th first-round pick from this year’s draft class to sign. Only two, Shemar Stewart (Bengals) and Jahdae Barron (Broncos), remain unsigned.
A College Star Ready for the Next Level
Hunter gained national attention at Colorado for his rare ability to excel on both offense and defense. In his final season with the Buffaloes, he averaged 111.5 snaps per game and became the only FBS player since 2000 to record both 10-plus touchdown receptions and five-plus interceptions in a career.
His remarkable two-way performance earned him the Heisman Trophy following the 2024 college season.
Gradual NFL Integration
Hunter has already impressed during offseason workouts, though the Jaguars have been measured in ramping up his workload. During voluntary OTAs, he practiced on just one side of the ball each day. By minicamp, he was alternating between offense and defense. Head coach Liam Coen noted last week that he expects more flexibility in Hunter’s role as training camp nears.
Eyes on Training Camp
Now that Hunter’s rookie deal is signed, his full focus can shift to preparing for the upcoming NFL season. Jaguars rookies are set to report to training camp in just under one month, and all eyes will be on Hunter as he continues his transition to the pro level.
