The 2025 NFL Draft is approaching (April 24–26), and all 32 franchises are finalizing their strategies. For the New York Giants, the plan is clear: pick the best player available. After struggling for several seasons, the franchise is aiming to return to its former glory, one reason why Abdul Carter might be their choice.
New York’s Defense Aims to Strengthen Its Strengths
When looking to improve, there are generally two schools of thought: fix your weaknesses or bolster your strengths to make them dominant. The Giants appear to be leaning toward the latter.
New York has faced persistent offensive issues in recent years, particularly along the offensive line. Still, the team seems focused on enhancing its pass rush with Abdul Carter, an area already boasting strong talent.
“Everyone saw the Super Bowl, right? Philly brought pressure with how many players? Four, the whole game? That’s one way to do it,” said general manager Joe Schoen, as reported by NBC Sports. “When you think of a guy like [Carter], with a unique profile, he played in coverage for two years before moving to the edge this season, and what a season he had! You’ve got Kayvon, you’ve got Burns, you’ve got Dex on the inside. That gives you a lot of options. He’s versatile. He’s young, just 21, and really exciting to watch. Yeah, you can never have too many pass rushers.”
Carter appears to be the frontrunner to be GM Joe Schoen’s pick. According to American media, the Penn State standout was a focal point during the Giants’ most recent pre-draft press conference.
If this selection is confirmed, the young prospect would join a defensive front that includes Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Dexter Lawrence. Enough firepower to shake up opposing offenses. Carter’s addition could turn New York’s pass rush into a rock-solid foundation for a playoff run, something the Giants haven’t achieved since 2022.
