Marlon Humphrey Welcomes New Talent
Lamar Jackson isn’t the only Baltimore player excited about the arrival of Jaire Alexander. Following Alexander’s signing on Wednesday, after being released by the Green Bay Packers, Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey expressed his enthusiasm about the team’s new addition.
“A quote that’s never been said and probably will never be said in NFL history is, ‘We got too many corners that can cover,'” Humphrey said this week, via the team website. “I think that’s a great problem to have. Really excited for that addition. The options are endless. It’s going to be a fun secondary.”
Jaire Alexander Reunites With Lamar Jackson
By joining Baltimore, Jaire Alexander reunites with Lamar Jackson, his former college teammate at Louisville from 2015 to 2017. After spending seven seasons with the Packers, the two-time Pro Bowler now starts a new chapter with the Ravens.
Defensive Coordinator Zach Orr’s Options Expand
The addition of Alexander provides first-year defensive coordinator Zach Orr with more flexibility. Orr steps into the role following Mike MacDonald’s departure to become the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks last offseason.
Baltimore’s secondary already includes Marlon Humphrey, Chidobe Awuzie, Kyle Hamilton, Nate Wiggins, and 2025 first-round pick Malaki Starks. With Alexander healthy, he could join Wiggins on the outside, while Humphrey shifts to the slot, forming a formidable cornerback trio.
“Great addition,” Hamilton said of Alexander’s signing. “He’s been one of the best in this league since he got in it. To have anybody like that, no matter what position, especially as a DB, it’s super valuable.”
Health Remains Key for Alexander
While Alexander brings talent and experience, his recent injury history raises questions about availability. Over the past two seasons, he has appeared in only 14 games due to injuries involving his back, groin, shoulder, and knee. He missed Green Bay’s final eight games of the 2024 season, including their Wild Card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Baltimore’s acquisition of Alexander could become increasingly valuable as the 2025 season progresses. For now, the veteran cornerback will begin integrating with his new team when training camp kicks off on July 22.
