New Energy in Dallas
Former first-round pick Kaiir Elam is looking to revitalize his career after being traded to the Dallas Cowboys following a difficult stretch with the Buffalo Bills. “I feel like the energy here is something I’ve never been a part of,” Elam said on Tuesday, via the team’s website.
“I love the enthusiasm, and also I would just say the energy from the coaching staff, they actually make you feel like they care, and that’s something that’s very exciting.”
In Buffalo, Elam came in with high expectations as the No. 23 overall pick in 2022 but was quickly overtaken on the depth chart. He struggled to find consistent playing time, starting only 12 games over three seasons. In high-pressure moments, particularly in the playoffs, he had difficulty in man coverage situations.
Early Opportunity in Dallas
With Trevon Diggs returning from injury and rookie Shavon Revel Jr. still recovering, Elam now has a chance to make an impression early in the offseason under defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.
“All aspects of the game, just playing the game before the game is even played,” Elam said. “Being able to eliminate routes and also expect what’s coming so you don’t have to play with your full athleticism, you can play with your mind first.”
