Dolphins and Jalen Ramsey to mutually explore trade possibilities

The Miami Dolphins and star cornerback Jalen Ramsey are reportedly aligned in exploring potential trade options, according to NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. With the 2025 NFL Draft just over a week away, a resolution could come soon.

Ramsey, 30, joined Miami via a 2023 trade from the Los Angeles Rams, which cost the Dolphins a third-round pick and tight end Hunter Long. Despite missing the first seven games of his debut season in South Florida due to a knee injury, Ramsey still earned his seventh career Pro Bowl selection, reinforcing his status as one of the league’s premier defensive backs.

That season, he also signed a three-year, $72.3 million extension, briefly making him the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback. However, his 2024 campaign saw a relative dip in production, he played the full season but did not earn Pro Bowl honors for the first time since 2019.

With the cornerback market evolving, highlighted by new deals for Houston’s Derek Stingley Jr. and Carolina’s Jaycee Horn, Ramsey’s contract now ranks below the top tier. He is set to earn $25.1 million guaranteed in 2025, though any team acquiring him would only take on $21.1 million after the Dolphins paid a $4 million roster bonus.

As part of their offseason moves, Miami has already begun reshaping its secondary. The team signed veterans Artie Burns and Ifeatu Melifonwu, and returns Kader Kohou, Elijah Campbell, and Storm Duck. Each of whom logged at least one start last season. They also released Kendall Fuller, who was second only to Ramsey in starts among Miami cornerbacks in 2024.

General manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel are expected to continue strengthening the position, possibly through the 2025 NFL Draft. The Dolphins currently hold the 13th overall pick and have 10 total selections.

Although there’s no firm deadline for a trade, Rapoport noted that a deal ahead of the April 24 draft would allow Miami to capitalize on any additional draft capital in this year’s class.

If a trade materializes, Ramsey would conclude his Dolphins tenure with 82 tackles, 16 passes defended, five interceptions, and six tackles for loss across two seasons.

I've been hooked on football since I first picked up a ball as a kid. After years of coaching and living the highs and lows of the game, I turned my passion into writing. Now I cover the NFL with the same love and energy I had on the field.
