Davante Adams Enjoying Fresh Start with Rams: “Exactly What I Needed”

    New Chapter in Southern California

Davante Adams, now a member of the Los Angeles Rams, is enjoying his new environment and the energy that comes with it. After spending over two years with the Las Vegas Raiders and most of 2024 with the New York Jets, Adams feels revitalized in his new setting.

“It’s been exactly what I needed, feeling rejuvenated and really, really enjoying the time with the guys, getting to know them, getting on the same page with Matthew (Stafford), and just kind of gelling with the whole team right now,” Adams said on Tuesday, via the team’s official website.

“It feels like I’ve been on this team for a couple years now, just based off of how open and receptive the guys have been to me.”

A Seamless Fit in McVay’s Offense

Following his release by the Jets, head coach Sean McVay recruited Adams to add another elite receiving option alongside Puka Nacua. Reports from offseason workouts indicate the 32-year-old receiver looks energetic and is meshing well with the team.

“I feel like this is what I needed just based off the vibe and the aura of the building,” Adams said. “And everybody’s in a good mood. It’s not like a dark cloud over the building. And I’ve experienced that quite a bit over the last few years. So, it’s a glaring difference when you come into a building like this.”

    Contrasting His Past Experiences

Adams’ remarks underscore the difficulties of his previous stops in Las Vegas and New York, where both coaching staffs have since moved on. He began his career in Green Bay, where he earned five Pro Bowl selections and two first-team All-Pro honors.

While his first season with the Raiders was productive, posting 1,516 yards and a league-leading 14 touchdowns, his performance declined in the following years.

    Still Among the Elite

Despite his age, Adams remains a top-tier wide receiver, known for his quick releases and ability to create separation. Now in Los Angeles, he’s focused solely on football. “It’s just about ball. It’s no other B.S,” he said.

“And [they’ve] got a really good quarterback in here,” Adams added. “Got a really good, young team that shows a lot of promise and was obviously really close to being able to have a chance at the whole thing last year.”

“So, just knowing how hungry this team is and seeing the work that they’re still putting in after having a year last year just kind of confirms that I’m in the right place.” For Adams, L.A. represents a chance to return to Pro Bowl form and make another postseason run, something he hasn’t experienced since 2021.

I've been hooked on football since I first picked up a ball as a kid. After years of coaching and living the highs and lows of the game, I turned my passion into writing. Now I cover the NFL with the same love and energy I had on the field.
