Brock Purdy’s Relationship With Deebo Samuel
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy recently opened up about his close relationship with Deebo Samuel during an appearance on the “Bussin With The Boys” podcast. With Samuel now in Washington following an offseason trade, Purdy is preparing for a season without a key teammate who supported him from the beginning.
“It sucks, dude. He’s my boy,” Purdy said, via 49ers Web Zone. “I love Deebo. Day one, he’s always had my back and believed in me when I got in. I didn’t really know how the guys were going to take it when I did get thrown in. Jimmy went down, I was the last quarterback and Deebo was nothing but just great to me, dude. Building me up, and just giving me confidence.”
Samuel’s Importance In The 49ers’ Offense
Despite a decline in Samuel’s production since his 2021 Pro Bowl campaign, Purdy emphasized the wide receiver’s importance in the 49ers’ offense and the unique connection they shared on the field.
“In games, we fed off each other’s energy and building each other up,” the QB said. “It was awesome, and over the last couple of years, same thing. So, we created just a great relationship. He’s my brother.”
Moving Forward Without Key Weapons
In addition to Samuel’s departure, Purdy faces another challenge as Brandon Aiyuk is unlikely to be ready for the season’s start due to injury. Stepping up in their absence, the 49ers will turn to Jauan Jennings, second-year first-round pick Ricky Pearsall, free-agent addition Demarcus Robinson, and fourth-round rookie Jordan Watkins as their main receiving options entering training camp.
