Khan Signs New Three-Year Deal
The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Thursday that general manager Omar Khan has signed a new three-year contract, securing his position through the 2028 season.
“I am excited to announce we have signed Omar to a new three-year contract,” Steelers President Art Rooney II said in a statement. “Omar and his team have done a great job over the past three years in constructing our roster through the NFL Draft, strategic trades, and free agency. We look forward to continuing that trend that will lead to even more success on the field.”
A Long Tenure in Pittsburgh
Khan, 48, took over as general manager in 2022 but has been part of the Steelers organization since 2001. During his time with the team, he witnessed the building of two Super Bowl-winning teams in 2005 and 2008. The Steelers have also maintained 21 consecutive non-losing seasons, with 18 of those under head coach Mike Tomlin. A streak they will carry into the 2025 campaign.
Record and Reputation
Since succeeding Kevin Colbert as general manager, Khan has led the Steelers to a 29-22 record and two playoff appearances. However, deeper playoff runs have remained elusive. Khan has become known for his bold approach in free agency and the draft. His aggressive moves even earned him the temporary nickname “The Khan Artist” from Tomlin.
A Busy Offseason
This offseason, Khan made a series of headline-grabbing moves. The Steelers signed Aaron Rodgers, anticipated to be the quarterback’s final season. Khan also executed a trade with the Seahawks to bring in wide receiver DK Metcalf in March.
Additionally, he pulled off a blockbuster deal to acquire cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith. In May, Khan traded wide receiver George Pickens to the Cowboys, reshaping the team’s receiving corps alongside the Metcalf acquisition.
“I would like to thank Art Rooney II for his support,” Khan said. “I believe we are building a championship roster and look forward to the 2025 season and beyond as our goals continue to be to bring another Super Bowl to the City of Pittsburgh and our great fans.”
