    Honoring a Legacy

The Indianapolis Colts announced Friday that late owner Jim Irsay will be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor. The ceremony will take place during the Colts’ regular-season opener against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, September 7. The announcement came on what would have been Irsay’s 66th birthday.

    A Fitting Tribute

“There was no bigger advocate for the Colts, the NFL, the city of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana than our dad, Jim Irsay,” said Irsay’s daughters, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt, and Kalen Jackson, in a joint statement.

“It’s only fitting that he now joins the other amazing Colts legends in our Ring of Honor who contributed so much to our franchise and our community over the past four decades.”

    Joining Colts Legends

Jim Irsay will become the 20th member of the Ring of Honor at Lucas Oil Stadium. He will be enshrined alongside notable figures such as his father, Robert Irsay, as well as Tony Dungy, Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Jeff Saturday, Peyton Manning, Dwight Freeney, and Dallas Clark.

Irsay passed away on May 21. A private memorial service was held in Indianapolis on June 2 to honor his life and contributions. On Monday, the franchise announced that ownership had officially transferred to Irsay’s daughters, with Carlie Irsay-Gordon assuming the role of principal owner.

    A Lasting Impact

Jim Irsay became the sole owner of the Colts in 1997 after the passing of his father. During his tenure, the franchise captured 10 division titles, two AFC championships, and one Super Bowl victory. As the Colts prepare for another title pursuit in the 2025 season, they will carry the memory of their late owner both on their jerseys and within the walls of Lucas Oil Stadium.

I've been hooked on football since I first picked up a ball as a kid. After years of coaching and living the highs and lows of the game, I turned my passion into writing. Now I cover the NFL with the same love and energy I had on the field.
