Monken Wants Increased Involvement for Flowers
Zay Flowers is coming off his first 1,000-yard season, and the Baltimore Ravens are aiming to build on that success by increasing his role in the offense.
Flowers finished the 2024 regular season with 1,059 yards on 74 receptions and four touchdowns. He missed the postseason due to a knee injury. Offensive coordinator Todd Monken made it clear on Tuesday that the team wants to get the ball in Flowers’ hands more frequently in 2025.
“We’ve just got to get him the ball more,” Monken said Tuesday. “I mean, that’s really it. The problem is we have a lot of those guys. He’s an unbelievable football player. He’s not only an outside receiver that has elite route-running skills, but he’s unbelievable with the ball in his hands.”
“So you have, like, a guy that fits two positions, really plays two spots. You can use him in a variety of roles to get him the ball, which allows your volume to go up. He’s a volume-catch guy. You can use him in novelty screens, get him the ball down the field, so I expect him to take another leap in terms of his consistency.”
Target Share Competition Ahead
In a run-first offense, it remains to be seen how many additional targets Flowers might receive beyond the 116 he had last season. He ranked 23rd in the NFL in targets in 2024, just behind Terry McLaurin (117) and Calvin Ridley (120).
This offseason, the Ravens added DeAndre Hopkins to an already crowded receiving group that includes Rashod Bateman, tight end Mark Andrews, and Isaiah Likely. The competition for touches will be stiff, but Monken appears committed to expanding Flowers’ role.
Flowers Confirms He’s Healthy
Flowers missed Baltimore’s two postseason games due to a knee issue, but the receiver indicated he is back to full strength. “My knee is great,” he said. “I feel 100%. I feel like I’m ready to go, feel like I’m ready for the season. No limits. I’m good.”
With his health intact and the team intent on boosting his involvement, the 24-year-old wideout could be poised for a breakout third season, just as he becomes eligible for a contract extension in 2026.
