NFL Draft 2025: Ranking the Top 5 Quarterback Prospects

As the NFL Draft 2025 approaches, scheduled from April 24 to 26 in Green Bay, the buzz around quarterback prospects is heating up. Although this year’s quarterback class isn’t considered particularly deep, several high-potential players could make a major impact in the NFL. From strong arms to elite mobility, each of these quarterbacks brings something unique to the table. Here’s a breakdown of the top 5 quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft.

    1. Cam Ward (Miami)
The Playmaker with a Cannon Arm

Cam Ward, the standout from the University of Miami, has emerged as the consensus top quarterback in the 2025 draft class. Ward combines elite arm strength with creativity and poise under pressure. He thrives in chaotic situations, often turning broken plays into explosive gains. His ability to throw deep with precision, along with his mobility, makes him a high-upside prospect. However, his tendency to hold the ball too long can result in unnecessary sacks, something that NFL defenses will quickly target. Still, with several teams in need of a quarterback—such as the Titans or Browns—Ward is almost certain to be taken within the first three picks. In the right system, he could blossom into a franchise cornerstone.

    2. Shedeur Sanders (Colorado)
A Smart Quarterback with NFL Bloodlines

Shedeur Sanders, son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, had once been projected as a potential number one overall pick. While his draft stock has slid slightly in recent months, he remains one of the most cerebral quarterbacks in the class. Sanders excels at reading defenses, anticipating plays, and keeping his composure in the pocket. His lack of elite athleticism and tendency to absorb heavy sacks raise concerns, particularly if he lands behind a weak offensive line. But with his high football IQ and leadership qualities, Sanders still offers significant long-term value. A team willing to build around his strengths could find themselves a true field general.

    3. Jalen Milroe (Alabama)
    The Explosive Dual-Threat Project

Jalen Milroe brings elite athleticism and game-breaking speed to the quarterback position. A true dual-threat out of Alabama, Milroe can make defenders miss and rack up rushing yards like a top-tier running back. His ability to evade pressure and create plays on the move is impressive, but he’s still raw as a passer. Inaccurate throws and questionable decision-making have led to inconsistency in his college career, drawing comparisons to players like Anthony Richardson. Milroe isn’t a plug-and-play option, but with time, coaching, and the right environment, he could develop into one of the most dangerous weapons in the league.

    4. Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss)
    The Gunslinger with Big-Play Potential

Jaxson Dart is one of the more exciting and unpredictable players in the 2025 draft class. He lit up the scoreboard at Ole Miss with his deep-ball accuracy and flair for highlight-reel throws. Dart is also athletic enough to escape pressure and make plays on the ground when needed. That said, he remains inconsistent and may not be ready to start immediately. His game could benefit greatly from spending time behind a seasoned veteran. A team like the New York Giants, who recently signed Russell Wilson to a short-term deal, could be a perfect landing spot for Dart to develop while minimizing early pressure.

    5. Tyler Shough (Louisville)
The Seasoned Veteran with a Precise Arm

Tyler Shough is the most experienced quarterback in this draft class. At 26 years old, he enters the NFL with more seasoning than most, but also with a lengthy injury history, particularly during his stint at Texas Tech. In his final college season at Louisville, Shough showcased his accuracy, decision-making, and surprising mobility for his size. He’s comfortable operating from the pocket and has the mechanics to thrive in a pro-style offense. The main drawback is his age—teams may hesitate to invest in a quarterback who’s older and still needs developmental time. Still, in the right backup-to-starter transition role, Shough could prove to be a valuable long-term asset.

While the 2025 quarterback class may not have a clear generational talent, it’s filled with potential and diversity. From raw athleticism to elite football IQ, each of these prospects brings something different to the table. For teams willing to invest and develop, this year’s draft could yield the next breakout NFL quarterback.
